Tota Alves

This workshop questioned the journey an idea takes to become a film. It proposed a collective process of creating a story and producing a film, with only two premises: it must be filmed in the Casal Ventoso neighbourhood, and the story must be beautiful. Each participant had specific roles within a film set: scriptwriting, production, cinematography assistance, wardrobe, art direction, actors and actresses, catering, etc. The objective was for everyone involved to feel that they were part of the construction of a film they can be proud of, experiencing the entire production process from scriptwriting and pre-production to filming, post-production, communication, and screening.


BIO

Tota grew up in Rio Tinto, studied History in Coimbra, and found herself lost and unsure of what to do after completing her degree. Armed with her diploma, she worked in clothing stores, kitchens, cleaning, and babysitting in England and Porto. At the age of 28, she made the best decision of her life: studying screenwriting for film and television in Lisbon. Since then, she has been working in the film and audio-visual industry. Tota is a director and screenwriter of "O Meu Sangue" (RTP Play, 2020) and "Dolores" (RTP Play, 2020). She took a break to have a child and has now resumed writing for two series that are currently in production for RTP. Tota is 33 years old and still doesn't know how to write bios. Every time someone asks her for one, she struggles to write about herself in the third person.
