Formed in 1996 in Detroit, Slum Village released their first album “Fantastic Volume 1” independently. That record was dubbed an instant underground classic by fans and industry tastemakers, as was the group's first national release “Fantastic Volume 2”, released under their home label Barak Records. What followed was a long and emblematic career in hip hop marked by iconic releases, extensive touring, many collaborations but also tragedy, with the loss of two of the group’s original members. Today Slum Village stay true to their roots and have found their niche in giving that fiery flow that true hip-hop fans feel has been lost for a long time.
