Stage Mezzanine

Melissa Rodrigues (b. Cape Verde,1985), holds a degree in Anthropology from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon, having specialised in Performance Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and attended intensive training in performance arts at C.E.M – Centro em Movimento, in Lisbon. Melissa currently lives in Porto, where she works as a freelancer in the fields of art education (art-educator at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, in Porto, and A Oficina, in Guimarães), and in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects that connect art, experimentation and activism, like the Colectivo NADA. As a researcher in the fields of Anthropology and Performance she has developed research in Visual Culture, Image and Representation, having co-created and presented in June 2017 the collective performance “Hair” and in December 2017 created the lecture-performance “From submissive to political: the place of the black body in visual culture.” Melissa is also an anti-racist activist, member of the intersectional feminist collective Chá das Pretas and a founding member of NARP – Núcleo Anti-Racista do Porto.
