At the age of 47, Common has already won Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Emmys, and Grammys. But awards don't seem the most important thing in the career of Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr, the real name of the musician, actor and activist. Most of his career in recent years has been spent on movie sets – this year alone will see two premieres. But 2019 is being an important year for Common in different ways: he published his memoir, “Let Love Have the Last Word” – a book of courage revealing dramatic aspects of his childhood –, and also a return to records with “Let Love”, the twelfth of a career in which he has stood out as a musician for causes, blending art and activism, making so-called conscious rap, focused on social causes like justice, mental health, education, or the prison system. Common's first record was released in 1992, but it was only in 2000 that he tasted real success with “Like Water for Chocolate”, produced by names such as Questlove, J Dilla or D'Angelo. In 2005 he released “Be”, an album that was primarily produced by Kanye West.
