For some years now, the world's urban population has overtaken the rural one and this advantage is expected to reach 62% by 2036, with a 96% growth in Asia and Africa. Today, despite occupying less than 2% of the Earth's land mass, urban areas account for 70% of global CO2 emissions. The numbers do not disprove this, and the centre of action for decarbonisation and energy efficiency must be in urban areas. But is this just wishful thinking or a tangible reality?
