The women of the
"Finka Pé" group, bearers of a 17th Century Cape Verdean expression, intend to
transmit the importance of the batuque, traditionally performed at wedding and
baptism festivities. They are aware of their cultural identity, an identity
that is not built on negativity, against or in favour of a European reference,
but through positivity, for what it is. The batuque is an integration of the
body and feelings: dancing and singing they express their fears, concerns and
worries; they give advice and hope; they reflect on the role of women. Everyday
life is integrated into their art, which is the art of the body as the absolute
experience of their emotions, their thoughts, sensations and problems.
