Born in Portugal of Cape Verdean descent, Chullage is a rapper, poet, spoken word artist, and sound designer. He has released three rap albums (Rapresálias 2001, Rapensar 2004 e Rapressão 2012), various participations in records and compilations, and hundreds of live performances. He also heads the spoken word project “Preto”, in the scope of which he frequently collaborates with various musicians to recite his own works. In this scope, he has recently relaunched the sonic and visual poetry project Akapella47. He has participated in several word projects. He has recently developed several projects in theatre, having been responsible for the sound design and musical composition, as well as being co-writer, in several plays presented in London and Lisbon. He has also been collaborating with visual artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils in the design, sound installation and musical composition of the solo exhibitions “Dissecção / Dissection”, at Fundação EDP in Lisbon (2014); “Debris – Hong Kong” at Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation, in Hong Kong (2016), and “Debris – Macau”, at the Contemporary Art Center / Navy Yard No. 1, in Macau (2017), as well as Vhils' first stage production, “Periférico”, for the BoCA Biennial, in CCB, Lisbon (2017), in which he also performed. He is a member of the black theatre group Peles Negras Máscaras Negras.
